You’re Failing Texas, Business Owners, and Democracy
To: Rep. Van Duyne, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn
From: A constituent in Dallas, TX
March 27
I write to you not as a political opponent, but as a lifelong Republican voter—someone who supported you both in election after election, trusting that you would defend American interests, democratic institutions, and conservative values grounded in strength, security, and economic leadership. Instead, I now watch in horror as the party I once supported turns its back on our allies in Europe and cozies up to Vladimir Putin—a dictator who imprisons opponents, assassinates critics, and actively works to undermine our democracy. Senator Cornyn, you’ve spent your career warning about the threat posed by Russia. Have those convictions simply evaporated? Are they now expendable in the face of Trump’s whims? And Senator Cruz—you’re from Canada, yet you’re standing by as Trump openly entertains the idea of “taking over” Canada and Greenland? Do you hear yourselves? Do you understand how deranged and dangerous that sounds to the rest of the world—and to those of us trying to run businesses, invest for our families’ futures, and live in a stable, functioning democracy? Let’s also talk tariffs. What are Trump’s actual demands? What’s the goal? Does anyone in the GOP even know? Or is this just more performative saber-rattling at the expense of real-world consequences for American businesses? I run a small business. I employ people. I invest in this country. And your party’s erratic, authoritarian flirtations are not only bad policy—they’re tanking the economy and threatening the very foundation of the country you swore to serve. If Trump gave even one iota of genuine concern for the American economy—or had even 1% of the business acumen he brags about—he wouldn’t be unraveling international alliances, undercutting markets, and turning the U.S. into a punchline on the world stage. Unless of course this is entirely intentional—and he, and now apparently the rest of you, want to dismantle everything in service of your own power. I voted for you. I believed you were patriots. But now, I’m wondering whether the GOP has quietly decided that democracy is inconvenient—and expendable. Do the right thing. Speak out. Before it’s too late—for my business, for my employees, for my kids, and for the future of the country.
