I am writing to express my deep concern about the expiration of enhanced health insurance exchange subsidies, first introduced under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and later extended through the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. These subsidies, which have helped millions of Americans afford health coverage, are set to expire at the end of 2025, leading to significantly higher premiums for many in our community starting in January 2026.
Allowing these subsidies to lapse would create a healthcare affordability crisis at a time when many families are already struggling with rising costs due to inflation and broader economic uncertainty. Without congressional action, millions of Americans—especially low- and middle-income individuals—could face premium hikes that make health insurance unaffordable, forcing some to forgo coverage altogether.
As your constituent, I urge you to support legislation that extends these subsidies to prevent a surge in uninsured rates and financial hardship for working families. Maintaining access to affordable healthcare is not just a moral responsibility but also a sound economic policy that helps reduce uncompensated care costs and ensures a healthier, more productive workforce.
I appreciate your attention to this urgent matter and look forward to your response on how you plan to address this issue. Thank you for your service and dedication to our district.
