I cannot recommend passing a bill that aims to increase school safety without substantive action on the root causes. While panic alarms may help during an active incident, they do not prevent such tragic events from occurring in the first place. We need comprehensive reform to address rampant gun violence and prioritize the wellbeing of students over profits for the arms industry. Thoughts and prayers are empty gestures - our representatives must show courage and moral leadership by pursuing common-sense gun laws that most Americans support. Only then can we make real progress in protecting the lives of our children.
