Oppose Dismantling the US Dept. Of Education - It’s an Attack on Civil Rights

To: Sen. Padilla, Sen. Schiff, Rep. Liccardo

From: A verified voter in Saratoga, CA

April 1

I’m writing again to urge you to oppose both the bill and the proposed plan to dismantle the Department of Education. It is a vicious attack on civil rights and the fundamental right to education being carried out by extremists that exist within our government and backed by our demented “President” This department was born out of the civil rights struggle, created to protect equal educational opportunity for all children, regardless of race, ethnicity, or background. Dismantling it would strip away vital federal funding and oversight, leaving marginalized students and those with disabilities even more vulnerable to discrimination and neglect. We cannot allow this administration to erase DECADES of hard-won progress toward educational equity. Improving our schools requires work, but it also requires more resources and support services, not cutting them off entirely. This destructive proposal serves only to undermine public education while funneling tax cuts to the wealthy elite. Our children's futures and our nation's commitment to civil rights depend on preserving and strengthening this essential institution. We must safeguard the right to quality education for every student in every community. I urge you to vigorously oppose and Vote NO on any efforts to abolish and/or defund the Department of Education.
