Regarding Mahmoud Khalil’s case, detaining someone and threatening to revoke their legal immigration status without evidence of a crime—simply because you disagree with their beliefs—is a gross violation of the First Amendment. It undermines due process and is fundamentally un-American.
The Trump administration is not a good-faith actor on matters of antisemitism. Their record of embracing neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, support of Nazi salutes by Elon Musk and Steve Bannon, and Donald Trump’s own assertion that he only wants “Jews to count his money” speak for themselves.
Using the power of the government to target your enemies and scapegoat immigrants has resonance with the darkest moments of history, including but not limited to the Holocaust. America is better than this.
