Stop Trump from Destroying the Department of Education!

To: Sen. Cortez Masto, Sen. Rosen, Rep. Amodei

From: A verified voter in Reno, NV

March 21

As your constituent, I urge you to stop Donald Trump from dismantling the Department of Education and harming students and parents in the process. By shutting down key offices, conducting mass layoffs, and gutting federal programs, Trump is attempting to bypass Congress and strip away critical protections for students’ education and civil rights. You cannot allow this executive overreach to go unchecked. The Department of Education ensures that every child—regardless of race, sex, gender identity, or disability—has equal access to education. Weakening these protections will harm millions of students, particularly those with disabilities, low-income families, and those who rely on federal education support. If Trump succeeds in gutting the Department of Education: • Students with disabilities will lose access to key IDEA and Section 504 services. • Low-income schools will face devastating cuts to Title I funding. • Millions of students will struggle to afford college without access to federal grants and loans. The impacts of these cuts will be felt by nearly every child, every parent, and every teacher in this country. This is not just reckless—it is an attack on the right to an equitable education. Congress must act now to protect our students, their families, and the civil servants who fight for them. I urge you to publicly oppose these cuts, block any attempt to defund critical education programs, and hold the executive branch accountable for its blatant overreach. Our children’s futures are on the line. Will you stand up for them?
