The proposed budget cuts and restructuring of the Department of Health and Human Services by Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. threaten to severely undermine our nation's public health infrastructure and scientific research capabilities. Slashing 24% of the HHS workforce, including significant cuts to vital agencies like the FDA, CDC, NIH, and CMS, will have devastating consequences. These cuts will hamper the ability to effectively respond to disease outbreaks, curtail critical medical research into cancer, infectious diseases, and chronic illnesses, and reduce access to healthcare services for vulnerable populations. Consolidating agencies and eliminating regional offices may compromise the department's ability to address localized health needs effectively. Rather than streamlining operations, these draconian measures risk crippling the nation's public health defenses and leaving Americans more vulnerable. We cannot sacrifice our commitment to safeguarding public well-being and advancing medical knowledge for short-term cost savings. I urge you to reconsider these reckless cuts and prioritize the health and safety of all citizens. Robust funding for health agencies and scientific research is an investment in our collective future that cannot be compromised.
