An Open Letter

To: Rep. McGuire, Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine

From: A constituent in Forest, VA

March 20

I'm writing to express my deep concern about the unjust detention of Badar Khan Suri, a Georgetown graduate student and Virginian, who was recently arrested and detained by immigration authorities. As reported by Politico, Suri's detention is part of the Trump administration's aggressive deportation efforts. What's particularly troubling is that, like Mahmoud Khalil, another recent detainee, Badar Khan Suri was in the United States legally. His detention raises serious questions about the administration's commitment to upholding the law and respecting the rights of individuals who are in this country legally. I urge you to speak out against this unjust detention and advocate for Suri's release. As elected officials representing Virginia, it's essential to protect the rights and well-being of your constituents, including Suri. As your constituent, I request that you: • Publicly denounce the unjust detention of Badar Khan Suri: Speak out against the Trump administration's actions and call for Suri's immediate release. • Support legislation that protects the rights of immigrants: Introduce or co-sponsor legislation that safeguards the rights of individuals like Suri, who are unfairly targeted by immigration authorities. • Advocate for Suri's release: Use your offices to advocate for Suri's release and ensure that he is treated fairly and humanely. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this matter.
