The treatment of detainees in El Salvador is appalling and raises serious human rights issues. While public safety is important, dehumanizing and abusing individuals in custody is unacceptable and violates international norms. The excessive use of force, lack of due process, and inhumane conditions depicted are cruel and degrading. I urge you to investigate these allegations thoroughly, ensure proper treatment of all detainees regardless of nationality or status, and implement reforms to uphold human dignity and legal protections in the criminal justice system. Respect for human rights must be a core principle, even in pursuing legitimate security objectives. We already know there have been mistakes made and not everyone there is a gang member or has a criminal record. However even for the ones who are, who do have a criminal record, this inhumane treatment is indefensible. The lack of humanity is appalling.
