An Open Letter

To: Rep. Doggett

From: A constituent in Austin, TX

April 3

I am writing in abject opposition to SB412. If passed, this bill will rob our children of vital access to information and services which allow our commun ities to connect and thrive in divisive times. It simply cannot pass. City and county employees including police, fire, and librarians have long been protected from the burden of frivolous lawsuits which result from work in the public sector. Without this protection, public sector work would pose a radical burden. ividuals who work hard to provide valuable services to our communities. Stripping librarians of this protection will only result in an increase in needless litigation which will damage our cities, counties, state, and the ind ns being taken from my unborn child. es, I have found community and purpose which helped me heal after the COVID 19 lockdown and its repercussions. I cannot accept access to these institutio I am currently 7 months pregnant with my first child. I am devastated at the thought of their future without school and public libraries. Through librari I fervently encourage you to oppose SB412 as thoroughly as possible, as well as any other bill that aims to cripple our communities by stripping them of the community that libraries foster. Thank you.
