Urgent – Protect Illinois Farmers from Devastating USDA Cuts

To: Sen. Duckworth, Rep. Budzinski, Sen. Durbin

From: A verified voter in Champaign, IL

March 11

The USDA’s recent $1 billion cut to local food programs has already devastated Iowa farmers, stripping $11.3 million from schools and food banks. Illinois farmers face the same fate if immediate action isn’t taken. These cuts destroy local farm sales, force producers into financial crisis, and worsen food insecurity for millions of students and families. We cannot afford to let Illinois suffer the same losses. I urge you to fight for: Immediate restoration of funding for local food programs. State-level protections to support Illinois farmers and food access. Engagement with local producers to develop sustainable solutions. Illinois agriculture is at risk. We need your leadership—act now to protect our farmers and communities.
