Free Mahmoud Khalil from ICE

A few days ago, ICE detained Mahmoud Khalil, who is a Green Card holder, for “providing material support to Hamas.” But he did no such thing, he just organized pro-Palestinian student protests at Columbia. What happened to him is illegal in multiple ways: Khalil is being accused of a crime he didn’t commit, but not being formally charged; he is being targeted explicitly for exercising his First Amendment rights; and he is definitely a legal resident but ICE is detaining him anyway. If ICE and Trump get away with detaining and deporting Khalil, who’s next? Other people with legal visas and Green Cards who the administration doesn’t like? Maybe anyone who “looks funny” and is in the wrong place at the wrong time? ICE is going to be used as Trump’s all-purpose secret police. Please speak up for Mr. Khalil and secure his release, so Trump and ICE will know they can’t just disappear anyone they don’t like.
