I am writing to demand you vote NO on cloture and NO on the House Republicans’ partisan Continuing Resolution (CR). This bill is not a compromise—it’s a power grab that abandons bipartisan governance, slashes critical funding, and hands unchecked authority to President Trump and Elon Musk to decide how our taxpayer dollars are spent.
As Senator Patty Murray outlined, this CR:
Cuts lifesaving programs, including NIH research on fetal alcohol syndrome, epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s—research that impacts families like mine.
Fails to fund disaster relief or local projects, leaving communities like [your town/state] without resources for [specific need, e.g., childcare, public safety, or rural healthcare].
Forces Social Security offices to close and risks housing for tens of thousands, punishing seniors and vulnerable Americans.
Rewards political cronies by letting Trump divert funds to punish his enemies and reward allies.
House Republicans created this crisis by walking away from bipartisan negotiations—twice. Now they’re threatening a shutdown unless Congress surrenders to their demands. This is a false choice. As Senator Murray and Representative DeLauro have shown, a clean short-term CR is possible to allow time for real bipartisan solutions.
I urge you to:
Reject cloture to ensure transparent debate and stop this rushed power grab.
Vote NO on the CR and demand a clean extension that protects [specific priorities, e.g., healthcare, veterans, or your state’s projects].
Hold Republicans accountable for their shutdown threats—they control the House, Senate, and White House.
My community deserves better than backroom deals that silence our voices. I am counting on you to fight for the America we love—not the interests of billionaires. Please respond with your plan to oppose this harmful bill.
Sincerely,
