Congress must rein in unilateral tariff escalation, economic overreach
To: Sen. Tillis, Rep. Moore, Sen. Budd
From: A constituent in Gastonia, NC
April 3
I am deeply concerned by the administration's sweeping application of tariffs through this executive order. These unilateral trade actions threaten to drive up costs significantly for American families and businesses, while inviting retaliation that could undermine U.S. economic strength. Rather than escalating tariff wars that disrupt vital supply chains, I urge you to forcefully oppose this ill-advised approach that could severely harm American consumers and workers. Instead, Congress should demand the president pursue more balanced trade policies through multilateral negotiations and rules-based frameworks. Unilateral tariff escalation is an economically damaging path that undermines American global leadership. As a co-equal branch of government, I call on you to stand up for the interests of your constituents and rein in this executive overreach on trade before it inflicts severe economic pain. Representing the American people, Congress has a duty to serve as a check on unrestrained protectionist policies that could critically weaken the nation's prosperity and global standing.
