I am writing to express my deep concern about the ongoing threats to Social Security and the failure of Congress to take meaningful action to prevent its collapse. It is alarming to see unelected figures within the Republican party directly ordering a congressionally unauthorized committee (DOGE) to gut the program from the inside—an approach that would devastate millions of Americans who have paid into the system their entire lives. It is equally alarming to hear those same Republicans spreading blatantly false rhetoric about the Social Security program, describing it as a Ponzi scheme, and intentionally attempting to mislead the American people. This issue goes beyond partisan politics. Social Security is a cornerstone of financial stability for retirees and disabled individuals, like me, who depend on it. Allowing its destruction through neglect or administrative sabotage is just as harmful as directly voting to dismantle it. Sitting on the sidelines while you permit your constituents to be painted as parasites by a South African fascist on more government programs than the entire trailer park is a dereliction of your duty to Hoosiers. Congress must step in now to protect the future of Social Security before it’s too late. I urge you to take immediate action to safeguard this essential program. Americans have upheld their end of the bargain by paying into the system—now it’s time for our leaders to do the same by ensuring Social Security remains strong and solvent.
