I am writing concerning this administration’s Cabinet members using an unsecured Signal message thread, “Houthi PC small group,” to coordinate the surprise attack on the Houthis in Yemen, revealing classified information in the process.
Signal had earlier been identified as a security risk by our intelligence community, which issued official warnings not to use the app, as it was easily hackable by our enemies.
Those involved knew our enemies could hack Signal, but didn’t care, apparently more concerned their plans not leave a paper trail. One participant was even in Moscow during the chat.
Sharing detailed, classified information, via unsecured channels, about an upcoming military strike displays a shamefully-cavalier attitude toward our national security. This unnecessary risk to our military is wrong, reckless, and absolutely terrifying.
How many other such conversations about classified matters have been on Signal? How many will be on Signal going forward?
If any of my friends or family members in the military had done this, they would be in Leavenworth as I type this.
All parties involved in this Signal thread—including Vice President JD Vance, DNI Tulsi Gabbard, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, CIA director John Ratcliffe, and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz—need to resign or be removed from their positions immediately.
To make matters worse, several participants have since blatantly lied to Congress about the messages.
Moscow and Beijing and Tehran and Pyongyang are celebrating right now. They are laughing at us.
My wife and I urge you in the strongest terms to remove from office all persons involved in this national security debacle, and hold all parties responsible who perjure themselves to Congress concerning it.
