Confirm your support of Transgender Californians

To: Sen. Laird, Asm. Pellerin, Gov. Newsom

From: A constituent in Santa Cruz, CA

March 6

It is deeply concerning that Governor Newsom has aligned himself with the harmful and discriminatory views of Charlie Kirk regarding transgender individuals. By providing a platform to someone with a well-documented history of promoting transphobic rhetoric and advocating for policies that target and marginalize the transgender community, the governor is actively contributing to the normalization of hate and bigotry. The claims made during their conversation, such as transgender athletes having an "unfair" advantage or transgender healthcare being "butchery," are not grounded in empirical evidence and only serve to perpetuate harmful myths and stereotypes. These views not only undermine the dignity and human rights of transgender individuals but also contribute to an environment of fear, stigma, and discrimination. It is crucial for our elected representatives to uphold the principles of equality, inclusivity, and respect for all citizens, regardless of their gender identity or expression. Compromising on issues related to the basic rights and well-being of marginalized communities is unacceptable and fails to align with the values of a just and equitable society. We urge Governor Newsom to reconsider his stance, distance himself from individuals and ideologies that promote hate and discrimination, and actively work towards creating an environment of acceptance, understanding, and support for the transgender community. Failing to do so undermines the principles of justice and human rights that our state and nation claim to uphold.
