I’m writing as your constituent to urge you to take immediate action to ensure that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does not share tax information with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or other immigration enforcement agencies.
Tax filings are a critical part of civic responsibility, and immigrants—regardless of their status—contribute billions of dollars to the U.S. economy every year through taxes. The idea that their confidential information could be used to target or deport them not only betrays their trust but also undermines the integrity of our tax system.
The IRS has long upheld a commitment to safeguarding taxpayer privacy. This should not change. Using tax data for immigration enforcement would dissuade individuals from filing their taxes, which harms our communities and weakens the fabric of public trust in government institutions.
I respectfully ask that you support or introduce legislation that explicitly prohibits the sharing of IRS data with ICE, and that you demand full transparency and accountability in how tax information is protected and used.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for standing up for the rights and dignity of all people in our country.
