Enforce Kentucky’s age verification law to apply to X, formerly Twitter.
To: Gov. Beshear, Sen. Berg, Rep. Lewis
From: A verified voter in Louisville, KY
March 28
I am writing to urge you to ensure that Kentucky’s age verification laws for online pornography are fully enforced, particularly in regard to the website X (formerly known as Twitter). As you know, our state has taken steps to protect minors from unrestricted access to adult content by requiring proper age verification on adult websites. However, X continues to host explicit material while failing to implement meaningful age verification measures, making such content easily accessible to underage users.
Unlike dedicated adult sites that comply with verification laws, X allows explicit content while remaining open to all users, including minors. This lack of enforcement creates a loophole that undermines the very protections our state sought to establish. If age verification laws apply to adult websites, they should also apply to any platform that distributes similar content.
I respectfully ask that you take action to ensure that X complies with our state’s laws, either through direct enforcement or by clarifying the law’s scope to include social media platforms that host explicit material. Protecting minors from unregulated exposure to pornography should be a priority, and I hope you will support efforts to close this loophole.
Thank you for your time and dedication to this issue. I look forward to your response on how we can ensure the law is properly enforced.
