The “Trump Tax” tariffs are nothing more than a direct hit on American consumers, driving up prices on everyday goods and throwing our economy into chaos. Industries reliant on imported materials, from manufacturing to agriculture, will see skyrocketing costs, leading to job losses and higher prices at checkout (Tax Foundation, March 2025). This is nothing short of an economic disaster, and yet Congress has remained largely silent.
The world isn’t standing still—Canada, Mexico, and European nations are already planning retaliatory tariffs. That means higher costs for American exports and even more economic pain for farmers, manufacturers, and businesses (AP News, March 2025). Trump’s reckless policies are isolating us, weakening our global standing, and making life harder for working Americans.
Meanwhile, financial markets are sounding the alarm. Stock indexes have tumbled, businesses are delaying investments, and consumer confidence is plummeting (The Guardian, March 2025). This self-inflicted economic wound will take years to heal, and every day Congress fails to act, the damage grows.
I call on state leaders to use every tool at their disposal to pressure Congress and the Trump administration to stop these tariffs before the harm is irreversible. Enough with the silence—stand up for American families and businesses. Working families cannot afford the destruction and recklessness.
