Maintain crucial Public Service Loan Forgiveness program commitments

To: Sen. Bennet, Sen. Hickenlooper, Rep. Pettersen

From: A constituent in Buena Vista, CO

March 7

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program is crucial for dedicated public servants who have sacrificed higher-paying private sector jobs to serve their communities. Eliminating this program would upend the lives of millions who have spent years working toward loan forgiveness in good faith. PSLF provides a pathway to debt relief for those devoting their careers to vital fields like education, health care, law enforcement, and public service. Dismantling it after borrowers have already met most requirements would be highly unethical and financially devastating. As someone who has diligently completed 8 out of the 10 required years of qualifying employment and payments, losing eligibility now would be an unacceptable breach of trust. Preserving PSLF honors the commitments made to public servants and ensures retention of skilled workers providing invaluable services to society. The program must be maintained to uphold principles of fairness and ensure promises to borrowers are kept.
