Pass FAIR Auto Act (A2427/S2944)

To: Assembly Member Spearman, Assembly Member Moen, Sen. Cruz-Perez

From: A constituent in Woodbury, NJ

March 22

As a member and/or supporter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council and your constituent, I ask that you support the FAIR Auto Act (A2427/S2944). For Black drivers in New Jersey, the cost of auto insurance is more than just a monthly bill; it's a barrier to economic opportunity. This bill directly addresses the systemic discrimination that forces Black and Latinx residents to pay unfairly inflated auto insurance rates. This disparity creates a significant financial burden in a state where reliable transportation is essential for employment and daily life. Auto insurance is mandatory, yet the current system allows insurers to charge higher premiums based on factors that disproportionately affect communities of color, effectively penalizing them for their race. This is structural racism in action. The financial strain caused by these discriminatory practices impacts Black families' ability to build wealth, access better housing, and secure a stable future. This is not simply a matter of fairness; it's about economic justice. We can dismantle a system that perpetuates inequality and ensure that all New Jersey drivers, regardless of race, have access to affordable auto insurance. I urge you to support A2427/S2944 today. Thank You
