Yesterday, we learned that senior officials including Vice-President Vance, Secretary of Defense Hegseth, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, and deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller were planning military strikes in Yemen over a Signal group chat – because they accidentally included the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. While the mistake of including the media is a clear enough sign of a total failure of operational security, Signal is also not approved for sharing classified information, there is serious risk they’ve exposed this conversation to hacking by foreign intelligence services, and with messages set to disappear it also seems likely they are breaking the law about preserving government records. There need to be real consequences for this.
Please demand hearings to investigate this security breach, to establish what other operations may have been exposed through similar protocol violations and whether U.S. servicemembers have been endangered, and to learn more about the potential and illegal destruction of records.
Demand an independent prosecutor investigate all those involved for potential violations of laws on classified information.
Demand resignations, and press for impeachments if none are forthcoming.
Thank you.
