An Open Letter

To: Rep. McClain

From: A constituent in Independence, MI

March 12

I am writing to express my deep anger and disappointment with your recent vote in favor of the House-passed continuing resolution that includes harmful cuts to essential programs. This vote is a direct betrayal of the people you are supposed to represent, including those in your district who rely on critical programs for health care, education, nutrition assistance, environmental protection, and veterans’ benefits. By supporting this resolution, you have chosen to prioritize partisan interests over the well-being of your constituents. Cutting funding for health care programs will harm families who are already struggling to access the care they need. Reducing support for education and nutrition assistance will leave vulnerable children and families without the resources they rely on to thrive. And cutting funding for the EPA jeopardizes our environment and public health. Most alarmingly, your vote also undermines our veterans—those who have sacrificed for our country—by decreasing the support they deserve. This is not just a policy decision; it is a moral failure. The programs you are helping to cut are the lifeblood for many who are already in precarious situations, and your actions are only making it harder for them to survive and succeed. While you may have cheered along with your colleagues in the MAGA wing of the Republican Party, I want to remind you that the people you are hurting with your vote are your own constituents. They will bear the brunt of these cuts, and you are failing to serve their best interests. This vote is a clear message that you are more focused on partisan victory than on the well-being of those you represent. I urge you to reconsider your approach and prioritize the needs of the people over party politics. It is your duty to protect the people of this district, and by voting in favor of these damaging cuts, you have abdicated that responsibility. Your vote is a direct reflection of your ongoing corruption and disregard for the needs of your district. I will not forget that you have consistently chosen to undermine your own constituents for political gain, and I know many others will hold you accountable as well.
