As your constituent, I'm writing to demand you do everything in your power to stop the wild and uncoordinated gutting of our federal government.
Cutting thousands of jobs from all over the public sector will have terrible impacts on our way of life, critical services, education, equality and equity, justice, social welfare, poverty, and health. The same goes for federal funding and grants for these programs, aid groups, and research. Every facet of our lives will be made worse by these cuts.
It's reasonable to assert that each part of the government has waste we could cut out. But just like you wouldn't randomly start cutting off body parts to prevent an infection, we shouldn't dismantle large swaths of our government without thinking it through first. Where's the evidence of this waste? How do we know the impacts of these layoffs? How will we keep deadly diseases from spreading without research and federal coordination?
Show me a thoughtful, well researched plan and I'd support some considered changes. But what DOGE/Trump is doing right now? Absolutely insane.
Please stop these mass layoffs and defunding efforts. Immediately. Demand transparency and Congressional oversight of these activities before they are allowed to take place. Hold those responsible for these cuts to account when the negative impacts are made clear.
End the madness.
