The proposed Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or Save Act, would disenfranchise millions of eligible voters by requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration. Research shows over 21 million voting-age citizens lack easy access to documentation like passports or birth certificates. The Act would severely restrict the ability of non-partisan organizations to conduct voter registration drives, which account for roughly one-fifth of all registrations, especially in marginalized communities overlooked by political parties. Our democracy thrives when more people participate, not when logistical hurdles suppress voter access. I urge you to reject this harmful legislation that threatens the voting rights of millions of Americans.
