Investigate detained student protester - uphold free speech rights

To: Rep. Carns, Pres. Trump, Gov. Ivey, Sen. Roberts, Rep. Palmer, Sen. Tuberville, Sen. Britt

From: A verified voter in Birmingham, AL

March 10

This case of a student protester who is in the country legally but being detained by immigration authorities appears to be a concerning violation of free speech rights. While peacefully exercising their constitutional right to protest, this individual now finds themselves unjustly held in custody. We must safeguard the ability of all people to voice their views without fear of retaliation or imprisonment, as this is a core tenet of democracy. I urge you to investigate this situation thoroughly, ensure this student's rights are upheld, and take steps to prevent such suppression of free expression from occurring again. Protecting freedom of speech means protecting it for everyone, regardless of immigration status. This sets a dangerous precedent for non citizens that threatens a similar approach for citizens.
