An Open Letter
To: Gov. Cox
From: A constituent in Provo, UT
March 27
For the comfort and safety of ALL Utah's children, and the acceptance of all people in our public buildings -- where EVERYONE has a right to be -- I implore you:
VETO HB77 immediately!
Every child, every Utahn, deserves to be treated with dignity and have their identity recognized, not banned. Visibility is important to all groups of people, and the LGBTQ+ community comprises a very large umbrella of Americans and Utahns. (Even living in uber-conservative Provo, from a large LDS family, roughly 1/3 of my Millennial and younger relatives -including my own son- identify under this umbrella.)
Banning their ubiquitous symbol sends a message that they are not loved, not accepted, not welcome.
That has never been the Utah way. If it is the Utah way now, I am ashamed to be a Utahn.
