Protect parental choice, oppose HB0233 for education rights
To: Sen. Cullimore
From: A constituent in Sandy, UT
March 6
I respectfully urge you to oppose HB0233, the School Curriculum Amendments bill. While I understand the intent behind increasing parental involvement in education, this legislation would actually diminish parents' ability to make informed choices about their children's learning. The current opt-in system for health education curricula allows parents to review materials and decide what is appropriate for their family. HB0233 would force all parents to proactively opt out, removing their control over this important decision. As representatives, you have a duty to protect the rights of parents to guide their children's education according to their values and beliefs. Upholding the existing opt-in policy respects families' diverse perspectives while HB0233 imposes a one-size-fits-all approach. I encourage you to prioritize parental choice and vote against this misguided bill.
