The United States does not need to gain control or ownership of Greenland. Pursuing this course of action is misguided and unnecessary for national security interests. Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, with its own government and the rights of self-determination for its people. Attempting to acquire Greenland against the will of Greenlanders and Danes is an aggressive overreach that damages our international standing and relationships with allies. There are more productive ways to address strategic concerns in the Arctic region through cooperation and diplomacy rather than intimidation tactics. We should respect the sovereignty of Greenland and its people, abandoning any efforts towards American control or purchase of the territory. Our resources and focus would be better directed elsewhere.
