Block the Return of Predatory Bank Fees

To: Rep. Trahan

From: A verified voter in Lowell, MA

March 27

The Senate has voted to overturn a crucial Consumer Financial Protection Bureau rule that would cap excessive overdraft fees charged by banks at just $5. Allowing banks to continue charging exorbitant overdraft fees of up to $35 will disproportionately burden low-income Americans, costing them hundreds of dollars per year that could otherwise go towards essential expenses like housing, healthcare, and groceries. Overturning this important consumer protection will benefit big banks at the direct expense of hard-working families. I urge you to stand up for your constituents and oppose H.J. Res. 59 when it comes before the House. Protecting consumers from exploitative fees should be a top priority.
