Oppose cuts to CDCs HIV Prevention

To: Rep. Soto, Sen. Moody, Sen. Scott, Pres. Trump

From: A constituent in Kissimmee, FL

March 19

The CDC’s HIV Prevention Division monitors HIV infection rates and leads crucial HIV testing and prevention efforts. Their efforts have been highly effective, with new HIV infections decreasing by 12% from 2018 to 2022. Defunding or eliminating this highly effective and impactful CDC division will threaten decades of progress toward ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic. State budgets and HHS divisions have insufficient budgets and scope to pick up and continue the division’s essential efforts to track, diagnose, and prevent HIV cases across the nation. For example, HHS’s Ryan White HIV/AIDS program exclusively serves people already diagnosed with HIV and is not equipped or funded to conduct prevention-focused activities. Eliminating or undermining HIV monitoring and prevention efforts will be costly from both a public health and a financial perspective. Urge Congress to protect the CDC’s HIV Prevention Division and preserve the strides we’ve made in curbing the HIV epidemic. I'm calling to urge my representatives to strongly oppose any cuts to the CDC's HIV Prevention Division. The CDC's HIV prevention work saves both lives and taxpayer dollars by stopping the spread of HIV.
