I request that you support Rep. Ro Khanna's Drain The Swamp Act to reduce corruption and implement reasonable limits on those holding power, which is crucial for maintaining trust in our democratic institutions. Having representatives beholden to special interests rather than their constituents erodes faith in the system and breeds cynicism. Enacting measures like banning members of Congress from trading individual stocks, imposing term limits for legislators and Supreme Court justices, and prohibiting lobbying by former members would help sever the cozy relationships between lawmakers and monied interests. A binding ethics code for the Supreme Court could also bolster confidence in the impartiality of the judiciary. These common-sense reforms would realign incentives, curbing the undue influence of deep-pocketed donors and entrenched power brokers. They would reinforce that public service should be oriented around benefiting the people, not accruing personal wealth and privilege. Restoring integrity to our political process is vital for the health of our democracy and requires immediate action.
