I am writing to express deep concern regarding recent developments that threaten the integrity and accessibility of our cherished national parks. Reports indicate that the current administration plans to terminate leases for over 30 National Park Service (NPS) facilities, including visitor centers, law enforcement offices, and museums. Additionally, significant staffing reductions have been implemented, with approximately 1,000 NPS employees recently dismissed.
These actions pose serious risks to the preservation of our natural and cultural heritage. The closure of essential facilities could compromise public safety, reduce educational opportunities, and hinder conservation efforts. The loss of experienced staff further exacerbates these challenges, potentially leading to diminished maintenance and oversight within the parks.
As a constituent who deeply values our national parks, I urge you to:
Advocate for the Reinstatement of Essential Leases: Work to ensure that NPS facilities remain operational to provide necessary services to the public.
Support Funding for the National Park Service: Champion legislation that allocates adequate resources to maintain staffing levels, facility operations, and conservation programs.
Promote Oversight of Administrative Actions: Ensure that any decisions affecting the NPS are transparent and consider the long-term impacts on our national parks.
Our national parks are irreplaceable treasures that embody America's natural beauty and historical significance. It is imperative that we take immediate action to protect these lands for current and future generations.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
