Speak up for wise and ethical budget planning

To: Sen. Bradley, Rep. Allen, Gov. Evers

From: A constituent in Waukesha, WI

March 21

I am a mother of two school-age children, a teacher, and a proud member of my community in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I am concerned about the way cuts are being made under the guise of saving money on the federal level, that appear to be making their way to our state processes as well. The cuts happening across the nation right now are impacting the most vulnerable people and the actual way of life for many of us who work hard to maintain our own budgets on limited salaries like my own family. Cuts and proposed cuts to education, social services, humanitarian aid, our national parks, and more are actually a drop in the bucket of our national spending, but it offers mighty impact for our communities here in Wisconsin and elsewhere. On the flip side, huge amounts of money are being spent to round up immigrants under a massive campaign of fear and mislabeling. Tax cuts are proposed for the wealthiest among us -- reducing our available funds even more. Military and defense spending is proposed to go up, while at the same time our president is disrespecting and provoking our nearest allies. Finally, all of this is happening in a flurry of executive orders, bullying, and unethical movements by entities like DOGE. It's not happening with forethought, planning, or concern for the lives impacted. While there are always ways to improve efficiency and spend tax money wisely, there are ethical, reasoned ways to do this that involve lawmakers and researchers with data to back up their decisions. There are ways to do this that plan for long-term change, to seek out the parts of the programs that are working well and create transition plans for the pieces that could be better. Please stop allowing our executive branch to cancel all of these programs that benefit the people of America and Wisconsin. Please speak up for reasoned, ethical change that uplifts the vulnerable, respects the dignity of workers and immigrants, and follows the laws and processes of our government. I believe America can do this, and do better. But only if you are willing to be the true voice for me, my family, and my community.
