Protect veterans and our oath

To: Sen. Van Hollen, Rep. Hoyer, Sen. Alsobrooks

From: A constituent in North Beach, MD

March 26

Standing Up for Democracy and Justice As a veteran, a mother, and an advocate for democracy and justice, I am compelled to share Senator Bernie Sanders’ powerful message delivered on the Senate floor. His words remind us of our duty to protect our Constitution, our freedoms, and our future. I know firsthand the sacrifices made to defend our nation, and it is deeply troubling to see those same veterans face cutbacks to critical healthcare and support, while billionaires receive trillion-dollar tax breaks. It’s a betrayal of the very principles we fought for. Senator Sanders exposed how wealth and political influence are undermining our nation. Billionaires manipulate our government, slashing vital programs like Social Security and Veterans Affairs to line their own pockets. This is not the America we fought to protect. Even more concerning is the relentless attack on our Constitution. The separation of powers—established to prevent tyranny—is under siege. Attempts to intimidate and suppress the free press are not just attacks on journalism but on democracy itself. We must hold accountable those who put wealth and power above the needs of the people. We must demand integrity and courage from our leaders. Silence in the face of injustice is complicity. I refuse to let the sacrifices of my brothers and sisters in uniform be diminished by greed and cowardice. I will continue to advocate for a government that serves the people—not the pockets of billionaires. Thank you for standing with me to defend our democracy and protect our values.
