As a resident of Bloomington, Indiana, I do not want to see ICE officers ransack our communities and take over our spaces as detention centers. This is a nice city, full of nice people. I don’t want the Indiana government contracting with private prisons or local governments to house immigrants, especially given ICE’s nasty reputation. ICE claims detention is non-punitive and then turns around and contracts with prisons, uses detainees for labor, tortures them with solitary confinement, and denies them medical care which sometimes results in their death. In what world is that non-punitive?
I don’t want one cent of my tax dollars being spent on an ICE detention center. Not in my community, not in my state, not in my country. I haven’t had one single issue in my life with an undocumented immigrant. The only violent invaders I see are ICE agents.
I’d like a response to my concerns please.
