Preserve affordable, universal postal service for all

To: Rep. Beatty, Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted

From: A constituent in Westerville, OH

March 19

The United States Postal Service (USPS) plays a vital role in ensuring affordable and equitable delivery of mail and packages across the nation, including to rural and remote areas where private carriers often do not operate or charge exorbitant fees. Privatizing the USPS risks undermining this universal service obligation, leading to higher costs and reduced accessibility for many Americans. The potential impacts could be significant – slower deliveries, diminished services in certain locations, and increased expenses that may be passed onto consumers. While the financial losses of the USPS are concerning, privatization is not the solution. Instead, measures should be explored to maintain the USPS as an independent, affordable, and accessible service for all citizens, regardless of their location or economic status. This ensures equal access to essential postal services and supports the needs of individuals, small businesses, and major e-commerce companies alike.
