Reject draconian funding cuts, uphold democratic norms
To: Rep. Stefanik
From: A constituent in Warrensburg, NY
March 12
The proposed continuing resolution is an unacceptable overreach that jeopardizes vital programs and services. It would impose extreme funding cuts that threaten Social Security, housing assistance, food aid, and veterans' benefits, harming countless vulnerable Americans. Furthermore, it grants excessive power to Trump and Musk over federal spending decisions, enabling their unilateral agenda. This continuing resolution cannot be supported as it stands. Instead, a government funding bill must be negotiated that rejects draconian cuts and partisan policy riders attacking abortion rights, LGBTQ+ protections, and immigrant communities. Robust safeguards are imperative to prevent the executive branch from misappropriating funds for its own ends. Until these reasonable terms are met, anything beyond a clean two-week continuing resolution to maintain government operations should be rejected. Moreover, as this executive overreach persists through illegal payment diversions, agency sabotage, and personnel purges, all available procedural measures must be invoked to impede and expose these undemocratic actions. Delaying tactics like blanket holds on nominees, blocking unanimous consent, and forcing quorum calls can disrupt the implementation of this extreme agenda. Protecting fundamental rights, shielding vital programs from devastation, and upholding democratic norms necessitates an unwavering stance against this continuing resolution as proposed. Principled opposition can compel a more reasonable compromise that serves all constituents rather than empowering an illicit power grab by a few.
