Say no to stripping tenants of their due process rights

To: Rep. Howard

From: A verified voter in Austin, TX

March 29

This proposed legislation is deeply concerning as it would strip away essential due process rights for millions of Texas renters. By allowing landlords to request summary judgments without trials, the bill deprives tenants of their day in court to defend themselves against eviction. Evictions have devastating consequences, making it harder for families to find future housing and further entrenching housing insecurity. Rather than expediting evictions for corporate landlord interests, we should be strengthening protections for vulnerable renters. Evictions compound poverty and homelessness - this draconian bill moving forward would be a grave injustice against everyday Texans. I urge you to reject this attack on tenants' rights and instead work towards policies that safeguard housing stability and prevent displacement.
