No Cuts to Medicaid and YES to investing in our communities!

To: Sen. Schumer, Sen. Gillibrand, Rep. Gillen

From: A constituent in Rockville Centre, NY

March 18

I'm urging you to take quick action to stop the attacks on Medicaid and Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood and Medicare are super important for many reasons, and they play a big role in making healthcare more accessible and affordable for many people. Planned Parenthood provides essential health services like cancer screenings, STD testing and treatment, birth control, and more. They offer these services to people who might not have other options, especially in underserved communities. They are also a key player in providing reproductive health services and education. They help people make informed decisions about their bodies and futures, which is crucial for personal and public health. Medicare is a federal program that provides health coverage if you're 65 or older or have a severe disability, no matter what your income. It's a lifeline for many, ensuring that older adults and those with disabilities can access necessary medical care without financial ruin. Both Planned Parenthood and Medicare help reduce the financial burden of healthcare. Planned Parenthood often offers services on a sliding scale based on income, and Medicare helps cover costs that might otherwise be unaffordable for older adults and people with disabilities. Both organizations also emphasize preventive care, which is key to catching health issues early and maintaining overall well-being. This can lead to better health outcomes and lower healthcare costs in the long run. In short, both Planned Parenthood and Medicare are crucial for ensuring that everyone has access to the healthcare they need, regardless of their financial situation. They help bridge gaps in the healthcare system and support healthier communities. Cutting funding to Medicaid and blocking patients from care at Planned Parenthood is chaotic, cruel and dangerous and will directly affect low-income communities needing affordable health care. Congress must defend our ability to access health care, vote no on Medicaid cuts, and protect access to care at Planned Parenthood!
