The proposed workforce cuts and restructuring of the United States Postal Service (USPS) are reckless and must be stopped. My concern extends beyond Congress, as my federal representatives have been complicit in following Trump’s orders without considering the will of the people. I am calling on leaders at both the state and federal levels to stand up for American communities and protect our democracy.
1. Essential Services: USPS provides life-saving deliveries like prescriptions, Social Security checks, and other vital goods to millions, especially in rural areas. Cutting 10,000 jobs will slow or eliminate these services for many (PBS NewsHour, March 2025).
2. National Security: USPS plays a crucial role in secure communications and emergency response, distributing critical supplies during disasters (Lawfare, 2020).
3. Economic Impact: The USPS supports over 600,000 jobs. Gutting its workforce will devastate local economies, especially in regions where postal jobs are vital (Newsweek, March 2025).
4. Public Health & Democracy: USPS is critical for delivering medications and safeguarding mail-in voting, which underpins free and fair elections (USPS OIG, 2020; The Guardian, March 2025).
This moment demands leadership. If Congress refuses to act, state governments must step in to resist this attack on an institution that touches every American’s life. Protect the USPS now.
