The twice-yearly ritual of changing clocks is an antiquated practice that disrupts our body's natural circadian rhythms and has been linked to increased risks of car accidents, heart attacks, and other health issues. The misalignment between our internal clocks and daylight hours during certain periods also negatively impacts sleep quality and mental well-being. Daylight Saving Time (DST) was initially implemented to conserve energy, but its relevance has diminished in our modern society where most daily activities occur indoors. It's time we abolish the DST system in favor of permanent standard time. This aligns with our biological rhythms and eliminates the need for disruptive clock changes. An end to DST would improve public health, reduce workplace accidents caused by sleep disruption, and save precious time currently wasted resetting clocks. As an added benefit, permanent standard time would put an end to the complexity of adjusting schedules across time zones. The bipartisan support for this measure, including from President Trump and Elon Musk, underscores its common-sense appeal transcending political divides. By syncing our schedules with the natural cycle of light and dark, we can enhance productivity, safety, and overall well-being for all Americans. The archaic practice of daylight saving deserves to be relegated to the annals of history. Let's make permanent standard time a reality through decisive legislative action.
