As a member and/or supporter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council and your constituent, I am writing to urge you to support and pass the Healthcare Cost Containment and Price Transparency Commission (A5376). As a concerned resident of New Jersey, I believe that this bill is a critical step in addressing the escalating costs of healthcare, ensuring that residents have access to affordable care, and promoting transparency in the pricing of healthcare services. The rising costs of healthcare have become an unbearable burden for many families and individuals across New Jersey. Despite increasing premiums, out-of-pocket expenses, and deductibles, consumers are often left in the dark about the actual prices of medical procedures and treatments until after they have received care. A5376 provides an important framework for establishing a commission that will monitor and control these costs, empowering consumers with the information they need to make informed decisions and seek the most affordable options. Price transparency is essential for creating a competitive and fair marketplace, allowing patients to make choices based on both quality and cost. A commission with the ability to track and report on healthcare pricing will help to ensure that all New Jersey residents are treated fairly by healthcare providers, and that the burden of rising costs is no longer disproportionately placed on individuals and families who may already be struggling. In addition, the bill includes provisions to address price gouging and establish safeguards to protect consumers from excessive pricing, especially in emergencies or situations where individuals have little choice in the providers they seek care from. By passing this bill, New Jersey would take an important step toward improving the overall quality of healthcare while ensuring that the financial strain placed on families is alleviated.
