The Senate plan (S.B. 3) to make hemp products illegal in Texas is ilconceived and unwarranted. Hemp has a very long and proud history in our state and is used to make everyday products like rope, cloth, clothing, bedding and is one of the most nutritious foods in nature. One fun fact is that hemp flour is naturally gluten free, packed with nutrition and is thirty-three (33%) percent protein, second only to soy in the amount of protein content. Hemp is eighty-five (85%) percent cellulose or nearly three times (3x) as much as trees and makes stronger paper than that made from wood pulp. Furthermore, a single acre of hemp can replace as much as four to ten (4 - 10) acres of trees over a twenty (20) year period. Did you know that building plastic made from hemp is stronger than steel? We have know this since the 1940’s. As you can see, hemp is great for agriculture, consumers, industry, commerce and climate change. I strongly urge you to speak out against radical narrow minded change that would hurt Texans and our economy. Please speak out against the bill and vote ‘no’ should it come to a vote. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to your response.
