Prevent Disastrous Budget Cuts for Washington, D.C.
To: Rep. Stefanik
From: A constituent in Lake Placid, NY
March 18
The House of Representatives needs to take up legislation to prevent devastating budget cuts that the continuing resolution includes for Washington, D.C. As it currently stands, D.C. would have to revert to last year's budget in the middle of the fiscal year, effectively costing the city a billion dollars in teachers, emergency services, and support for public transportation. The legislation to reverse these cuts is endorsed by both Trump and the House Appropriations Chair, but there are no guarantees the House will take up this measure. It's really important for Republican members to address and push this issue to uphold D.C.'s ability to allocate its own locally-raised tax revenue without Congressional interference.
