Our democracy should empower the voices of ordinary citizens, not allow wealthy interests and corporations to dominate the political process through unlimited spending on super PACs. The Abolish Super PACs Act proposes a sensible solution by placing a $5,000 cap on contributions to these groups. This would help limit the outsize influence of billionaires and special interests who currently use super PACs to drown out the will of the people. Since the 2010 SpeechNow.org v. FEC ruling, we have witnessed rampant corruption as the ultra-wealthy funnel millions into super PACs to sway elections and shape policies for their own benefit. Just this past cycle, over $1 billion in dark money flowed through these unchecked channels. This undermines faith in government and creates an oligarchy serving the elite rather than the public good. The Supreme Court has consistently upheld reasonable contribution limits to prevent corruption and uphold political equality. Overturning SpeechNow to reinstate limits on super PAC donations would simply restore a constitutional, common-sense policy that protects the integrity of our elections. I urge you to support the Abolish Super PACs Act and return power to the people by reining in the undue influence of unlimited dark money in campaigns. Our democracy depends on it.
