Fight for Executive Branch Accountability

To: Sen. Crapo, Sen. Risch, Rep. Simpson

From: A constituent in Twin Falls, ID

March 15

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding President Donald Trump’s recent public purchase and promotion of a Tesla vehicle at the White House, followed shortly thereafter by Elon Musk’s $100 million donation to a pro-Trump super PAC. This sequence of events raises serious ethical and legal questions that cannot be ignored. While the President may be exempt from certain conflict-of-interest laws, the blatant appearance of a quid pro quo undermines public trust in our democratic institutions. The use of the White House as a platform for what amounts to a corporate endorsement—especially when followed by an enormous political donation—sets a dangerous precedent that corrodes the integrity of the office and our electoral process. As my elected representative, I urge you to take a stand against this clear violation of ethical norms. Congress must investigate this matter thoroughly and hold both President Trump and Elon Musk accountable for any potential abuses of power. Our democracy depends on leaders who are willing to challenge corruption, regardless of political affiliation. I ask you to publicly denounce this action and push for hearings or legislative measures to prevent similar conflicts of interest in the future. The American people deserve leaders who prioritize public service over personal or corporate gain. I look forward to your response on how you plan to address this critical issue.
