No accountability for Space X

To: Sen. Fetterman, Sen. McCormick, Rep. Perry

From: A constituent in Harrisburg, PA

March 7

I am writing to express my concern over the continued federal funding and contract awards to SpaceX despite repeated mission failures and a lack of apparent accountability. Most recently, another SpaceX rocket exploded—just a short time after a prior failure—yet the company was still permitted to launch before the investigation into the first explosion was even completed. Given that billions of taxpayer dollars are being funneled into SpaceX, I find it deeply troubling that there seems to be no meaningful oversight or consequences for these repeated failures. In contrast, other aerospace programs have faced severe budget cuts, particularly under the Department of Defense’s DOGE budget reductions. Why has SpaceX been spared from these cuts, despite its repeated setbacks? Furthermore, the pattern of decisions surrounding SpaceX’s approvals raises questions about whether proper regulatory oversight is even being exercised. If Elon Musk and SpaceX are allowed to operate without the same scrutiny applied to other government contractors, then this represents not only a waste of taxpayer funds but a dangerous precedent for our space and defense industries. As my elected representative, I urge you to investigate why SpaceX is receiving preferential treatment, whether there have been any inappropriate firings of oversight officials, and what measures are being taken to ensure accountability in the federal contracts awarded to SpaceX. I look forward to your response on this matter.
