I urge reconsideration of the proposed mask ban and instead advocate for policies that promote public health and protect freedom of expression. Masking plays a crucial role in preventing the spread of respiratory illnesses like COVID-19, safeguarding vulnerable populations. Furthermore, the ability to protest anonymously is a fundamental right that must be upheld, as evidenced by the case of Mahmoud Khalil, who faces deportation for his activism against human rights abuses. Rather than restricting masks, we should encourage their responsible use for health reasons and legislate protections for protesters exercising their constitutional rights. A balanced approach upholding public welfare and civil liberties is imperative.
